Botox & Dysport

Both Botox and Dysport are minimally invasive treatments that target wrinkles and fine lines that result from the process of aging.

Dysport

Dysport is a minimally invasive treatment, used to temporarily eliminate dynamic wrinkles. Also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A, or obobotulinumtoxin, Dysport is injected with a small needle, blocking nerve impulses to the targeted muscle. As the area is unable to contract, the associated facial lines will ease and smooth out. The muscles surrounding the treatment area will continue to function as normal, so facial expressions are not affected. Dysport can naturally improve the appearance of wrinkles on the upper face, as well as soften lines around the mouth. For best results, Dysport can be paired with dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, to achieve optimal facial rejuvenation.

Possible Differences

Dysport has smaller protein molecules compared to Botox. Thus, it is used more on areas where diffusion is desired.

  • Time to effectiveness: Dysport may be faster-acting for some patients. Results for Dysport treatment are evidenced within 2-5 days while it takes slightly longer (approximately 4-7 days) for Botox. For best results, both treatments need to be repeated every 3-4 months or longer, depending on dosage, concentration, and treatment area.
  • Diffusion may be better and therefore may be more widely effective for crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles

Where Is Dysport Used?

  • Frown lines
  • Worry lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Brow asymmetry
  • “Chemical Brow Lift”
  • Bunny lines

How Long Does Dysport Last?

Effects last around 3 to 6 months, depending upon the location of the injection, your muscle activity, and your body’s individual response.

Botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a noninvasive treatment that temporarily relaxes facial muscles, reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Injected directly into the targeted area, Botox relaxes the muscle tension that causes dynamic wrinkles to appear. Lines along the forehead and around the eyes, can be safely treated, restoring a youthful appearance.
